Saren Cliff Viewpoint on Nusa Penida

Saren Cliff is another astonishing viewpoint over southern cliffs of Nusa Penida – with absolutely no tourists. We’ve visited thrice and were always alone. You could visit it at the same time as Tembeling Forest, Pools & Beach, since it’s almost the same road leading to it.

The drive there is pretty bumpy, but that is nothing new on Nusa Penida. The towering cliffs take your breath away. There is a sign for Saren Cliff Viewpoint, a swing and some beautiful big trees but the highlight is sitting on the edge of cliffs in the middle of nowhere enjoying the grandeur of Nusa Penida.

Saren Cliff Viewpoint also offers spectacular sunsets, and during their season (May – November) you can see Manta Rays cruising in the vast Indian Ocean below.

Get a local SIM card. While getting around we relied heavily on Google Maps for directions. We recommend Airalo eSIM, so you’ll have data transfer as soon as you land.
Note! Your mobile phone has to be eSIM compatible to use this option.

How to get to Saren Cliff Viewpoint

Saren Cliff Viewpoint is located in the middle of southern line of Nusa Penida Island. From the main harbour of Toya Pakeh, it’s approximately a 45-minute drive.

We’ve pinned the location of Saren Cliff Point on the map of Nusa Penida below, so you can see where it is in relation to either your accommodation on the island or other points of interest.

  1. You can explore the island on your own with rented scooter. Price for rental: Rp 70k – 100k (US$5) a day.
NOTE! The roads on Nusa Penida are, mildly said, in bad state. Lots of holes, ignorant van drivers, gravel parts… We’d avoid this option if you’re not experienced scooter driver.
  2. The option we once did (and would highly recommend it) is you can rent a car on Nusa Penida with private driver – great option to visit multiple spots safely in a day with a group of friends.

General information about Saren Cliff Viewpoint:

  • No entrance fee, no parking fee.
  • The access is more of an off-road experience than actual road.
  • Our advice: as soon as the road gets really crazy, park your vehicle by the road and continue on foot. After about 20 minutes’ walk (800 meters) you’ll reach the tree, the swing and grandeur of cliffs with unobstructed view.
  • You might encounter locals offering you a ride – you can definitely accept it, expect to pay them around Rp 70,000 – Rp 100,000. They will drive you to the viewpoint, show you around a bit, wait until you’re done and drive you back to your scooter. You can haggle for the price as well.
  • If you stay until sunset, definitely bring a flashlight – there is no road lights and the path is partly through forest, so it gets dark.
  • Viewpoint is just that – a viewpoint. No restaurants or bars, no warungs, no toilet or designated parking spot. In return you receive solitude with one of the most majestic views on Nusa Penida.
  • Warning: no railings at the viewpoint!
