Angel’s Billabong is an enchanting natural wonder on the east coast of Nusa Penida, Bali, Indonesia. A crystal-clear tide pool cascades into the ocean and out in that ocean, Manta Rays cruise the coast at leisure.
It’s one of the magical spots you can’t help but marvel at. The crystal-clear water allows you to see the patterns and textures beneath the surface. In some areas, the water is deep enough for a little dip! It is a highly photographed spot on Nusa Penida because of how unique the landscape is.

How to get to Angel’s Billabong

How to get to Angel’s Billabong from Bali?
If you are based in Bali, you’ll reach Broken Beach on Nusa Penida with speedboat or ferry. Check this blog post where you’ll find all the information about reaching Nusa Penida.
Generally, below are your options of how to get to the Nusa Islands. There are two main ways to get to Nusa Penida depending on your budget and how many logistics you want to manage. Here are the both options with the cheapest first:
- Book a fast boat: Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida – This option is great as you go direct from Sanur (Bali) to Penida. However you do need to organize your own transportation to the harbour in Bali.
- Book a fast boat with hotel pick-up: Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida – This option includes a fast boat from Sanur (Bali) to Nusa Penida but also includes pick-up from your accommodation in Bali in a van. This option from Get Your Guide is a bit more expensive but takes all the hassle out of the transit from your bed in Bali to Nusa Penida.
How to get to Angel’s Billabong on Nusa Penida?
Angel’s Billabong is on the West Coast of Nusa Penida. The island is quite big and it can take over an hour to cruise from one side to another depending on where your accommodation is located. The roads are improving throughout Nusa Penida because tourist traffic increases, but if you are a novice scooter driver this is going to be an interesting journey.

Tips:
- Arrive as early as you possibly can.
- Day tours to Nusa Penida start at 9am, so make sure to arrive to Angel’s Billabong before this time.
- It gets seriously crowded between 11am and 2pm. In our case, it got so crowded with vehicles we couldn’t get out from the parking lot with a scooter.
- Great time to visit is also after 3pm.
- Tidal Dependence. Check the tide in advance, your trip might be very different depending on the tide. The best time to visit and swim in Angel’s Billabong is during low tide. During high tide, it’s much riskier due to waves crashing into the pool from the open ocean.
- Broken Beach, Manta Ray Viewpoint and Angel’s Billabong share the same parking lot. All three are within a short walking distance from each other.
General information about visiting Angel’s Billabong:
- Rp 5000 parking fee for scooter, Rp 10 000 for car – parking is shared with Broken Beach and Manta Ray Viewpoint.
- No entrance fee.
- From Toya Pakeh Harbor it takes around 40 minutes by scooter to get to the Angel’s Billabong thanks to the partially broken road.
- You can walk all the way down to Angel’s Billabong – there’s a well maintained walkway and some stairs.
- You can have a refreshing dip at Angel’s Billabong during low tide.
- Even though nearby you have another fantastic spot, “Broken Beach”, you can’t swim nowhere near there since it’s a natural cove with direct access to the wild ocean waves.
- The Angel’s Billabong, Manta Ray Viewpoint and Broken Beach are within 5-minute walking distance from each other.
- While it’s a beautiful spot, safety should be a priority. Visitors are warned to be cautious as the rocks can be slippery and the waves can be unpredictable.

Between Broken Beach and Angel’s Billabong is a 5-minute walk. Halfway through the journey is an archway made of trees. When you reach this archway don’t go through immediately! Head up the hill towards the coast and look down into the ocean. This is where the Giant Manta Rays hang out. If the season is right (from May to November) you can spend some time here watching the Mantas swim around and surface time and time again.
Broken Beach near Angel’s Billabong
The other beautiful attraction near Angel’s Billabong is Broken Beach. Everyone who visits this area checks out both locations.
Broken Beach is a beautiful little cove just 5-minute walk away. The highlight and the reason it’s called “Broken Beach” is the archway that wraps above the bay, allowing water to flow in and out from the ocean.
