What can you expect?
Scotland’s moody capital, Edinburgh, draws us along narrow cobbled streets and through shadowy stone closes, following the trails of witches and wandering ghosts. From colourful Victoria Street to gloomy graveyards, from the vibrant Royal Mile to Edinburgh Castle, from a Gothic cathedral to the Palace of Holyroodhouse and the enchanting Dean Village. A coffee (or tea!) at The Milkman on charming Cockburn Street is an absolute must. Come evening, we surrender to the lively pulse of Scottish and Gaelic music in a pub; and for the bravest among us, there is a chilling descent into Edinburgh’s underground world, where the ghosts of tortured witches are said to linger still.
We journey through ancient little stone villages which will cast their spell upon us (Culross, Falkland, Luss). We wander through the Scottish Highlands and, in Cairngorms National Park, step into the rhythm of rural life in the 17th and 18th century. Scotland’s only free-ranging herd of Northern reindeer also roams here — and we will set out on a walk with these gentle creatures in our midst.
We will marvel at the remarkable architecture of Scotland’s towns and cities (St Andrews, Oban, Inverness, Pitlochry, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Inveraray, Fort William, Portree, Drumnadrochit), while the stone strongholds of long-vanished clans rise above them all, scattered across the land. We will feel the close, brooding confines of the Middle Ages first-hand (Edinburgh, Loch an Eilein, Campbell, Urquhart, Eilean Donan, Kilchurn castle…), then breathe freely again on a series of short walks through enchanted woods, beside murmuring burns and among otherworldly rock formations (Dollar Glen, Isle of May, Glencoe, Glen Etive…).
We will savour superb Scottish single malt whisky at the historic Oban Distillery and, over a pint of local craft beer, discover the story behind this fabled water of life.
One of the crowning moments of our wandering is Isle of Skye — the island of the gods. We will hike to one of Britain’s most astonishing viewpoints, Old Man of Storr. The island’s most beautiful panoramic road will take our breath away, while ancient lore leads us to moss-clad little fortress in a fairy-tale landscape said to be home to Gaelic faeries (Fairy Glen and Castle Ewen). All around us, the scenery is dotted with black-and-white sheep and endearing, hairy Highland coos.
With a little luck, we will watch the Jacobite steam train thunder across Glenfinnan Viaduct on its magical journey to Hogwarts. Scotland’s landscapes have stirred the imaginations of countless filmmakers, who have transformed them into unforgettable cinematic worlds. Along the way, we will therefore pause at many locations featured in cult films and series, including ‘Harry Potter’, ‘Outlander’, ‘Braveheart’, ‘Highlander’, ‘James Bond: Skyfall’, ‘Macbeth’, ‘The Da Vinci Code’ and more.
Presiding over it all are jagged mountain peaks wrapped in rain-heavy clouds, and endless glens unfurling into the distance like green carpets. Lochs, castle ruins, glens, Highland coos, rushing burns and winding roads that lead to remote stoney villages…

You will be accompanied by two wandering guides.
We will stay in exceptional locations: in twin/double rooms with private bathrooms at 3* hotels (city centre: Edinburgh, Glasgow, Pitlochry, Isle of Skye; countryside: Inverness, Falkland), plus one night in a holiday cottages in a breathtaking, secluded glen (Glencoe), with 4-Wanderers/room and shared bathrooms.
In May, Scotland is just stepping into its summer tourist season. The crowds have not yet arrived, while the days are wonderfully long—it remains light until around 11 p.m. Some days may be warm, others damp and misty, but it is never truly hot or bitterly cold.
We will explore the country in rental cars. This gives us extraordinary freedom on the road, allows us to reach tiny villages, and means we are not bound by a professional driver’s working-hour limits. We drive the cars ourselves and share the driving. In Scotland, traffic keeps to the left, and our cars will come from a Scottish fleet, meaning that certain controls are positioned differently from what we are used to (the steering wheel is on the right, and the windscreen wipers and indicators are reversed…). There will be plenty of time—and space—to adjust. If you would strongly prefer not to drive, you can contribute €50 and be excused from driving during the trip. Spots for non-drivers are limited.
The contribution from non-drivers is intended to reward the other drivers with a lunch or dinner.
This is a dynamic journey. It includes walks and hikes (easy to moderately challenging), daily change of accommodation, and daily drives between destinations. The days are long, but not excessively strenuous. On average, we will spend around 3 hours a day in the cars—yet these hours unfold along wonderfully scenic roads, with plenty of stops along the way.

The standard price applies to bookings made from 1 January 2027 onwards.
The price includes 8 nights in twin/double rooms with private bathroom at 3* hotels, 1 night in a holiday cottage with shared bathrooms (Glencoe), 8 breakfasts, arrangement and cost of the UK Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA), all admission fees included in the itinerary, tips, local transport, vehicle rental and all related costs (parking, fuel and insurance), ferry ticket, English-language guiding by two tour leaders and continuous support throughout the journey; and all trip planning and organisational costs. Two excursions are also included (Northern reindeer and puffins).

No later than 45 days before departure, you will receive an online form by email where you can also indicate which optional activities you wish to join. Advance booking for optional excursions are essential due to suppliers’ requirements.
Please bring the total amount for your chosen optional extras with you in cash.
Price of wandering does not include the international airfare. Price depends on your departing point and your selected baggage allowance. Arrive to Edinburgh on 26 May 2027, depart from Edinburgh on 4 June 2027. We recommend packing light—we move every day, and smaller luggage makes you far more mobile. We’d be happy to help you arrange your flight ticket.
You do not need separate travel health insurance for Scotland if you arrange a European Health Insurance Card in advance. However, travelling health insurance is strongly recommended.
You may travel to Scotland with a valid passport.
Way of Payment
1) Complete the booking form and send it to info@wanderresponder.com.
2) After booking, a €500 deposit is payable.
The deposit is non-refundable if you cancel. If we don’t guarantee the departure, the deposit is refunded to you in full.
3) Once the journey is confirmed, we will send you an invoice for the main payment (€1,360).
The early-bird wandering price must be paid in full before the early-bird offer ends (31 December 2026). The standard wandering price must be paid in full by the booking deadline (31 March 2027). If you would like to pay in several instalments, please let us know when booking.
4) Bring the remaining balance (€500 – in cash), together with the amount of your selected optional extras, with you on the wandering.
