Hokkaido – Northern Beauty of Japan!

A culinary-spiced travel story takes you to the northernmost island of Japan, where we will combine exploring volcanoes, lakes, and flower landscapes with daily pampering of the palate.

25th September – 4th October 2026

Kaj lahko pričakujete?

Cute Sapporo is the largest city on the island of Hokkaido. We visit it during the Autumn Festival, when the culinary delights of the entire island are gathered in one place – a real gourmet carousel! For those who are thirsty, brewers of local beer and whiskey also present themselves. Do you know the Japanese dish ramen? In Sapporo, they love it so much that there is a street where they don’t sell any other food!

Hokkaido is a mountainous island with numerous dairy farms, which provide all of Japan with dairy products of exceptional quality and taste. In Furano, we taste local dairy delicacies, everything from various cheeses and butter to homemade ice cream. We buy souvenirs in a charming village nestled in the forest. Here, we also pamper ourselves in traditional onsens.

In the largest national park on the island, we take a gondola ride to the volcanic lakes and admire the forest as it turns into autumn colors. We marvel at the colorful carpet of flowers that spreads across the Biei district and admire the golden sunset over the vivid blue lake – the scenes are simply magnificent.

On the west coast, we walk along the green Cape Kamui and learn the legend of why women were not allowed here for a long time. In the city of Otaru, we enjoy fresh seafood and speed up the evening with a boat ride along the water canal.

At Lake Toya, we witness the aftermath of the volcanic eruption of Mount Usu – we walk among abandoned buildings and cracks from which volcanic steam still escapes. We treat ourselves to a natural spa in the embrace of the forest. The magnificent panorama is dominated by Mount Yotei, the local equivalent of the more famous Fuji.

We conclude our travel story in the modern Japanese capital, Tokyo. We admire the city view from the tallest building in the country, watch sumo wrestlers during training, walk across the busiest pedestrian crossing in Shibuya, and spend our last yen on the bustling shopping street in front of the Senso-ji temple complex.

This is Hokkaido.

Z vami potujeta 2 guides.

We travel for 10 days and sleep 9-times in double rooms in hotels (4* and 3*). Japanese rooms are known to be on the smaller side.

Hokkaido has moderate temperatures (between 12°C and 22°C) and occasional rainfall in September. Sunrise is at 5:30 AM and sunset is at 5:30 PM. Japan does not change its clocks for summer or winter time.

We will be exploring Hokkaido, with the exception of Sapporo and Tokyo, with rented vehicles. Public transport in Hokkaido is not frequent. Private vehicles also allow us to drive through smaller local villages. The 2 guides will take care of the driving.

The group is small, up to 10 passengers. There is no surcharge for a small group.

Our journey is dynamic. It includes walking (mainly flat with slight climbs) and 6 changes of accommodation. The days can be long, but not too strenuous. On average, we spend 4 hours a day in the car, but these 4 hours are mostly very panoramic and with numerous stops.
