Diamond Beach has become one of the most popular beaches on Nusa Penida nowadays, thanks to the iconic staircase, carved into the cliff, that leads to the Beach. The crystal-clear turquoise water, dramatic cliffs, and stunning rock formations make Diamond Beach a photographer’s paradise. It’s undoubtedly among the top sites in Nusa Penida. The Diamond Beach got its name from the diamond-like rock structures scattered around, but there’s one rock that really stands out.

Diamond Beach Viewpoint

Razgledna točka nad plažo Diamond se nahaja na vrhu pečine, s katere se lahko spustite do znane plaže. Razgledna točka ponuja pogled na čudovit zaliv, ki je danes že znan po Instagramu zaradi dramatične pokrajine, katero lahko opazujete z vrha. Plaža Atuh

Atuh Beach is, along with Diamond and Kelingking Beach, the crown jewel of Nusa Penida Island. It is literally neighbouring Beach from Diamond – when on top of the ridge you’re overlooking Diamond Beach on the right and Atuh Beach on the left. It offers a stunning white sand beach surrounded by the huge cliffs and remarkable rock formations. An arch sits directly out from the shore while several islets string off in the distance. Drevesna hiška Rumah Pohon

Rumah Pohon Treehouse is one of the most iconic locations on Nusa Penida Island. After being discovered it quickly became Insta-famous. The Treehouse used to be a simple rustic accommodation on Airbnb, but it became famous as a photo spot. Nowadays visitors are allowed and the sole photography business brings more money to the locals running it than Airbnb-ing ever did.

Just a little stroll further is the Thousand Islands Viewpoint that leaves you awestruck. The view is incredible, you can even see a small empty beach sitting at the bottom of the cliff. It’s paradise. The Rumah Pohon Treehouse and it’s Thousand Islands Viewpoint is in close proximity to Diamond Beach, only 3 minutes’ drive by scooter. How to get to Diamond Beach

Diamond Beach lays on the far East Coast of Nusa Penida, little sister of more known Bali, Indonesia. The island is quite big and it can take over an hour to cruise from one side to another depending on where your accommodation is located.

Pozor! Ceste na Nusi Penidi so, milo rečeno, v slabem stanju. Veliko lukenj, ignorantni vozniki kombijev, makadamski deli ... Če niste vešči vožnje s skuterjem, priporočava da preskočite to možnost.
Možnost, ki sva jo enkrat izbrala (in jo toplo priporočava), je, da lahko najamete avtomobil na Nusi Penidi z zasebnim voznikom – odlična možnost za varen obisk večih točk v enem dnevu s prijatelji.

Tips:

Arrive as early as you possibly can.
Day tours to Nusa Penida arrive to Diamond Beach by 10am, so make sure to arrive to Diamond Beach before this time. It gets very crowded after.
Bring enough water, since you can only purchase it in the warung at the entrance, but not down at the Beach.

You’ll most likely receive a small complimentary bottle of water per person when purchasing your ticket.
Take pictures from the viewpoints first – if you’re descending down to the Beach you’ll look way less photogenic after.
There are many viewpoints along the ridge, you will notice them straight away. The view over the Diamond Beach changes with every step you take, so count on plenty of time for full exploration of the epic site.
The first part of the path is flat and concrete, well maintained. That path soon turns into well-worn dusty path leading further to the various viewpoints. There’s some construction going on at the moment (August 2024) in the area.
Second part, if descending towards the Beach, are rocky stairs, narrow and steep and carved into a cliffside. They’re absolutely stunning to take a photo from.
Pozor! Going down (in crowds) may be hard, but ascending back up is even harder. But again, the view over the beach and surrounding cliffs changes with every step you take, so we considered it worth it.
Just before you reach the bottom lays a popular giant swing spot – more about it below.
There’s around 1 hour drive from the main harbour Toya Pakeh to Diamond Beach parking lot.

The green slope at the far end of the beach has a small goat trail leading to the secluded viewpoint to the other side of the cliff. It’s not well worn and not often visited, but if you’re an adventurous soul….

Giant Swing & Photo Nest on Diamond Beach

Another one of the reasons Diamond Beach’s popularity increased rapidly. The Giant Swing photos flooded the internet and the spot immediately became famous. It’s exactly the spot where you can take pictures while swinging between two palm trees over the white-sand-and-turquoise-water beach with the famous diamond-shaped rock in the back.

Price per person for the Giant Swing is around Rp 100,000, but negotiable (especially if you’re more than one person). The employees at the swing will swing you and as such dictate the time you get on the swing. You can of course pay a little extra to get more time, but generally it’s enough time. There’s usually a line of people waiting to swing, but the earlier you arrive, the better. We’re easily talking about the most scenic swing in entire Indonesia.

Photo Nest is located a little bit prior to the Giant Swing and costs around Rp 80,000 per person – negotiable as well. We’re talking about one of those cute “bird nests” where you climb into it and snap that perfect shot with incredible scenery behind you.

Swimming at Diamond Beach

Swimming on the gorgeous beach sounds dreamy, but is in reality quite dangerous. The waves and currents during high tide are usually strong enough to swipe away even the most skilled swimmers. Occasionally, but very rarely, smack of jellyfish might wander into the bay, so before swimming, ask the locals about the situation.

Najin nasvet: preverite plimovanje beforehand if you wish to swim on the beach.

We can confirm it’s awesome, especially on a hot day 😉 the water is always fresh and almost always crystal clear as well.

We would advise against staying at the beach (not necessarily the viewpoint above) until dusk for two reasons:
1) Pot nazaj bi bila ob slabi vidljivosti še posebej nevarna. Imejte s seboj svetilko, če se nameravate zadržati do večera.
2) If visiting with your own vehicle it might be dangerous to drive back to your accommodation in the dark. Although the roads are new, they’re still covered with holes and gravel, and there aren’t any streetlights. In general – just be careful. 🙂
